Job summary:
The Red Hat Management and Automation Engineering team is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join us in Raleigh, NC. In this role, you will assist in a new initiative around Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) for the automotive industry. The Red Hat office in Raleigh is the preferred work location; however, well-qualified home-based engineering managers will also be considered.
Primary job responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, support, and debug new features based on our customers’ requirements
  • Work with the latest open source technologies in a highly cooperative landscape
  • Participate in our continuous integration (CI) and continuous delivery (CD) processes
  • Collaborate with developers, quality engineers, and system administrators to identify and address issues
  • Mentor other engineers and provide and receive thoughtful feedback
  • Work cross-functionally and regularly communicate with widely distributed associates from diverse cultural backgrounds
Required skills:
  • 5+ years of experience developing, engineering, and delivering software products
  • 5+ years of development experience writing code in Go, Python, Java, C, C++, etc.
  • Desire and aptitude to learn new technologies, frameworks, and techniques
  • Outstanding communication skills, with the ability to represent ideas with clarity while remaining open to other solutions
  • Problem solving skills and a willingness to learn and work with emerging technologies
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize, and work under pressure in a fast-paced, rapidly changing, and demanding environment
The following are considered a plus:
  • Familiarity with open source software development and open-source business models
  • Experience with Linux-based operating systems; preferably Red Hat Enterprise Linux or Fedora
  • Experience with Edge Computing and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies
  • Experience with Ansible Automation or similar automation technologies; knowledge of automation practices and principles
  • Experience with experience with Yocto-based Linux systems
  • Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) Atomic Host and CoreOS
  • Familiarity with Red Hat's product portfolio and open source software development
