Position Summary
  • This position will be part of the Connected Products Center of Excellence working closely with the Internet of Things (IoT) team. They will be responsible to develop requirements, implement, and test connected to communicate with the IoT solutions in both mobile and industrial environments. The role will work with cross functional teams across Motion Systems Group to determine requirements and implement them to enable products to be managed on the edge and remotely by Parker’s Internet of Things cloud solution based on Azure and by 3rd party management portals.
This role reports to engineering management or may be the engineering functional manager for a business unit or a small division. Coordinates with internal teams or interdependent departments within the business unit. May coordinate cross-discipline engineering teams. Has regular internal and external interaction with program management or customers on technical projects assigned to the team. Will have cross-business unit or division interface on common technical issues.
Key Responsibilities Include: 
1. Partner with divisional engineering teams to develop solutions for Parker’s smart and connected product portfolio. Solutions Architects are responsible for developing advanced algorithms (prognostics, diagnostics, advanced controls, event detection, etc) for smart products in the hydraulic, electromechanical, and pneumatics technology spaces. Define requirements for hardware, firmware, and connectivity for these solutions. 
2. Build and maintain collaborative relationships with internal and external customers and assure customer needs are identified and addressed. Solution Architects work with and guide key stakeholders to gather requirements, develop prototypes, validate solutions, and ensure successful launch of smart and connected products. 
3. Develop standards and requirements for Parker’s mobile and industrial products to ensure interoperability with other on-machine systems as well as with the IoT cloud. This role will also prototype solutions, create reference code, document, and test connected products in collaboration with the component teams. 
4. Develop internal tooling to support the entire smart product development lifecycle—with focus on key Parker technology platforms. Track latest developments in AI, assess their viability and appropriateness, and implement as standard offerings. 
5. Identify and create technical training and development plans to enable product teams to make use of reference code and to interface with management portals. Mentor or serve as an expert resource and share specialized knowledge with others. 
6. Coordinate with other internal engineering services teams such as IoT, hardware, and firmware teams to write product requirements, execute on development efforts, and guide joint technology roadmaps.
  • This role requires a Bachelor's degree (BS) in engineering, applied mathematics, computer science, data science, or a related technical discipline. Master's degree (MS) preferred along with: - Demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of the job typically acquired through 5 or more years of related experience. - Track record of successfully identifying, critically prioritizing, and utilizing emerging technologies to solve customer problems, improve efficiency, save time and/or money. - Experience implementing data acquisition systems for laboratory data collection. Familiarity with experimental design. 
  • Experience with hydraulic, electromechanical, or pneumatics systems is highly desired. - Experience with the implementation of AI systems and use of data analytics to solve engineering problems is highly desired. - Familiar with mobile controls and J1939 CAN bus protocols is desired. Familiar with Industry 4.0 principles, controls, as well as one or more Industrial protocols: Profinet, EtherCAT, Ethernet, I/O link is desired. - Has knowledge of technical and engineering principles sufficient to be conversant with subject matter experts. Ability to translate between engineering challenges and analytics problem statements. 
  • Ability to interpret the engineering implications contained within data. - Ability to apply knowledge of documenting standards and requirements across multiple product teams for consistent connected product design, the product development cycle, and testing process. Sufficient familiarity with IoT cloud technologies, firmware development, and electronics to develop product requirements in conjunction with subject matter experts. - Ability to foster teamwork and inclusion with diverse product teams. Ability to guide and develop cross functional teams. - Ability to effectively communicate and present status, actions, recommendations, and other technical information with clarity and precision. 
  • Maintains open communication within the team and other business areas. Ability to respond to significant inquiries from customers, product engineering or marketing/sales teams.
