Internet of Things – Smart Building Software Engineer

This resource will join Global Real Estate Technology focused on development of new innovative private and public cloud platforms that will integrate with new Smart Building technologies for the enablement of internal data analytics and end user experience journeys. This position entails not only hands-on software development, but also being responsible for providing application owner and technology engagement support for Internet of Things technology vendor supplied applications.  The candidate will be responsible for systems design, technology development partnering with the business to complete process reviews, data analysis and ensure compliance markers are met for the Application Ownership responsibilities.   The candidate must be a highly-motivated individual and must be able to handle a high level of complexity within their span of control, be able to deal with and work through ambiguity, be flexible enough to shift workload in accordance with changing priorities, and be comfortable dealing with and leading in a fast-paced, priority-driven environment.


  • Primary hands on development of new platforms in cloud based environment
  • Responsible for collaborating with key business partners, technology stakeholkders and 3rd party vendors in order to understand the strategy, direction, and objectives for the business
  • Responsible for end-to-end application lifecycle management of vendor supplied software to enhance business strategy, efficiency and governance, and optimization efforts
  • Ability to identify business process gaps and drive improved business operating models
  • Track issues and action items 
  • Establishing, build and curate an innovative, collaborative culture in an emerging technology discipline
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills that support business delivery and outcomes
  • Maintaining knowledge of industry-wide technology trends, best practices and regulatory controls impacting IoT
  • Responsible for detailed documentation on application in the IoT portfolio and maintenance of Application Knowledge Support Artifacts, etc.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with technical staff, end users and clients


  • B.S. or M.S. in computer science, information systems, or engineering
  • 12+ years of professional experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Expertise in application, data, and infrastructure architecture disciplines
  • Strong analytical, data management and requirements gathering skills
  • Ability to quickly understand complex subject matter
  • Strong understanding of Java fundamentals
  • Spring Framework – preferably with Spring boot
  • Worked on Angular or Reacts JS, bootstrap or other UI frameworks
  • Strong object oriented design and modeling skills
  • Strong in RESTful API implementation and micro-services architecture
  • Experience working with IOT Platforms like Thingworx, IBM Watson or similar platforms
  • Should have Development experience working on Internet of Things or Industrial IOT devices, consuming and publish data
  • Experience on cloud native development methodology (AWS / Pivotal or any other provider) and related aspects like API
  • Development skills with the following would be strongly preferred: REST, SOAP API's, Source Control (Git), Scrum/JIRA, Unit Testing and CI/CD pipeline build 
  • Development and Deployment on AWS VPC, Subnet, SG, Lambda, EC2, RDS, Route, Content Delivery, KMS, S3.
  • Familiar with Agile methodologies such as SCRUM, LEAN, etc
  • Experience in management of Minimal Viable Products (MVP), issues, risks and dependencies
  • Familiar with development tools such as Jenkins, Rundeck, SVN/Crucible/Jira, Git/Stash, etc
  • Understanding of caching frameworks
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in a multi-location team
  • Ability to execute tasks under aggressive targets and effectively manage to changes in plan
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize issues
  • Ability to work independently and be self-motivated

Secondary Skills:

  • Ability to design and implement application with response times with low latency & high throughput
  • Use of APM tools, profiling tools and performance tuning process management, scalability
  • Experience in load testing and performance benchmarking
  • Knowledgeable/prior development/integration experience in with Smart Building Technology/IOT Sensors a plus
